What is the problem many longs have with people who short stocks?

1. They refer to the longs as "the idiots" when the reality is the longs seem to put more thought into the companies they buy... shorters seem to only show up when a stock goes up quickly... thats their entire criterion.

2. Some notable shorters on SI tend immediately accuse company management of fraud (or at a minimum scheming) etc. when there is no evidence whatsoever, and in so doing usually insult the longs (again) in the process as if they aren't smart enough to catch on to the heist...

ex. you and the other recent longs have completely taken the CMRC insider's bait.

3. They pontificate about what will happen to the longs when the mania/hysteria, etc. ends... as if the longs are unable to comprehend the situation, when actually it is THEY that have the perception problem imo...

ex. and I hear the first screams of disbelief as CMRC list and plunges in panic selling.

All this on threads where the longs have made a ton and the shorts have been destroyed generally.

>Who is right? Whoever who ends up with the fattest bank account.
Rs, I disagree. Its the person who feels they have a great life, and dies with a smile on their face, that's right. I'm told that you can't take those fat bank accounts with you when your time is up, and your beneficiaries will only piss it away.
Ps
This has not been a good 12 years for the shorts, unless you found a Brex-mining. I missed that great short too.;-)

>>>As for stocks being manipulated by short sellers - sure that may happen occasionally in
thinly traded stocks but is a tough and dangerous game for wildly popular and actively
traded stocks like Amazon.<<<

Rob,

That's why they float rumors. They know they cant manipulate these high cap stocks any other way!

Rob this reflects my thinking re PCLN. All the geniuses around here thinking the longs are right and a short squeeze will occur soon.

But do not the shorts have more at risk than the longs? I think yes. The shorts can lose an infinite amount of $$, while the longs can lose only 100%. Neophyte investors rarely go short; most shorts are experienced market players.

Therefore, who is more careful? Who does more homework? Who monitors the position more closely?

To me, the answer is clear. And so far, with PCLN, the results affirm my opinion.
