Mark -

And one more comment now that I've thought about it for a while longer..

<<Perhaps this means the 5gb platters with one head and 10gb platter with 2 heads will have long product lives to fill the void for low capacity drives>>

Yes, some of these products might still be shipped, but my guess is that there will be few and the GMs will have been squeezed down to nothing. They'll be produced by the likes of APM or someone who is desperate to sell anything to stay alive. It'll be a similar situation IMO to the MR heads that are still be shipped for like 3 bucks and change today. I don't care how many you sell at that price, you won't make much $$$. Bottom line as always in this market is that big money is made at the bleeding edge, very very few people have EVER made money and been successful in the long run by riding the wave of older technology. Nobody that has any true market presence will want this end of the market.

P.S. - Of course, maybe the game is gonna change pretty quickly here. With the latest forecast of 1Head drives reaching into the 80% range by the end of 2003..(it's gonna be hard to eliminate components at that stage!) Maybe they're all gonna be going for the scraps and only the most super efficient players are going to survive... Hmmm, as I said, it's very bleak IMO. Somebody, please somebody, tell me how anyone is going to survive in this biz in the long run... I'm perplexed. Should we all just follow the craze, sell the DDs and buy B2B?
