<<Excuse me for mentioning it, but the Immaculate Conception does not relate to the conception of Jesus at all. It relates to Mary's being conceived without original sin. Just a point of clarification. >>

Ex-Steelers to celebrate 'Immaculate Reception'
By The Tribune-Review
There's this special quality that Franco Harris possesses. He was exactly at the right place at the right time on Dec. 23, 1972, when he scored a touchdown heard around the world.

Harris will again be at the right place at the right time Feb. 16, when he will join ex-teammates of the Pittsburgh Steelers to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception. The celebration will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel. Proceeds benefit the Program to Aid Citizen Enterprise (PACE).

Joining Harris will be John Banaszak, Rocky Bleier, John Brown, Larry Brown, Frenchy Fuqua, Steve Furness, Joe Greene, Randy Grossman, Andy Russell, Lynn Swann, J.T. Thomas, Mike Wagner, Mike Webster, Dwight White and former trainer Ralph Berlin. One of the most famous plays in the history of the National Football League happened with 22 seconds remaining and the Steelers trailing Oakland, 7-6, in a playoff game at Three Rivers Stadium. Quarterback Terry Bradshaw, scrambling from the pocket, fired a pass down the middle to Fuqua, a running back. The ball either deflected off Fuqua or defensive back Jack Tatum - countless replays are inconclusive - and the ball caromed to Harris, who was standing in the left flat. He raced 42 yards for the winning touchdown.

I never went to CCD...! That tip almost changes everything!

I had to have an actual Catholic explain it to me...now I'm nonplussed.

Correct me at will...I do not have all the details.

First, god chose a Jew[?],Mary's mother, to conceive Mary, "immaculatly", so that Mary [from "mar", meaning "The Sea"], was not born of "original sin"...I wonder how that worked...

-Then, God, having chosen Mary,[a 14 yr. old Jew?], to provide an Ova for [god's special angel?] to [fertilize?], and conceive/gestate Jesus. How was this done...?

Did Mary actually have intercourse with God or the angel that came on/with the "light"? and does the "light" represent ejaculate?
Perhaps "life"...?

I can only look at this myth,[imo], in terms of symbols. The idea of a "garden of Eden" doesn't resonate with me, but the idea of "original sin" may... I would relate to the primitive reptilian instincts we inherited from the brains of our ancestors...and I'm not an "evolutionist", exactly. I think there was some extraterrestrial intervention, at some point in history.

Edit, [I'm tryin'] I think when men attained the "knowledge" that they were part of the "pregnancy" equasion, they were already Predisposed [as Predators] to use it as a means of control and domination. [-Bump...ooops, we hit the Christian Fundies and the Anti-Abortion/Anti-Womens Rights issue...]

Thanks for the enlightenment...after all this time!

Frankly, it's the need for this sort of doctrinzation which to me is the Achilles heel of Christianity. I frankly see no point at all in such discussions as that of the Catholic Encyclopedia on the IC

newadvent.org

and believe that it interferes with the basic substance and truth of Christ's message. I was a senior administrator for a year in a Presbyterian seminary, and got an inside look at the amount of time that was spent on technicalities of doctrine and the amount that was spent on living a life according to Christian principles. It made Buddhism look very attractive.
