Lorrie,
Don't feel too bad about your confusion re: Immaculate COnception-- it;s a very common misconception (wow- a pun)
The concept came about because the Church couldn't have God emerging from an imperfect vessel, so they came up with this idea that MAry was spared from the taint of Eve's sin. Mariolatry was rampant even though it was considered heretical to worship her and it really ticked off the Church fathers, but they had to cave in and make her holy somehow. This happened definitively in 1854, when Pope Pius IX adopted the IC as an article of faith.

All these wonderful machinations and inventions are fascinating, and certainly are mythological in nature, but I think you are being a little one-sided in your coverage. The matriarchal gods were not all warm and nurturing either. There was a very dark feminine side, and plenty of examples of cruel and vengeful behavior! Gods of either sex just aren't known for being easy-going.

I never went to CCD either nor am I trying to argue or prove a religious belief. I simply offered a correction, supported with kindness by Rambi, that a simple search by anyone on the thread could have produced.

newadvent.org

As nihil pointed out, mistaken references undermine any argument.
