AJIC TO PUBLISH STUDY ON ZICAM

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. (Dow Jones)--Gel Tech LLC's Zicam homeopathic cold remedy reduced the duration of a common cold by an average of 85% in a study. Gel Tech is a joint venture between GumTech International Inc., (GUMM) and BioDelivery Technologies Inc. Gel Tech said Monday in a press release the nasal solution "significantly" reduced the severity of colds including nasal congestion, sneezing, coughing, and sore throat. Results of the study will be published in the American Journal of Infection Control. GumTech makes over-the-counter drugs.

I read this on Yahoo and thought at first that it was a hoax. But I just called Elizabeth Souder's office, Dow Jones Newswires, and spoke to Ms. Inkyung Kim. She said that the story is true and that it was on DJ Newswire. The only problem is that this is a pay subscription service so I can't post a link to the article. If anyone subscribes to DJ Newswire, please go to djinteractive.com and see for yourself that the article is there. WOW, AJIC must have changed their mind!!! Ms. Kim said that the article might also appear in the online edition of the Wall Street Journal or the paper version. It's true! I verified it.

I had to go to three different stores before I finally found some. Neither Walgreen nor Shopko had any, but I found three packages at Osco for $11 each, and bought 2. Using the product is not as disgusting as it sounds, and having gel up your nose is certainly better than the snot. <VBG> I also visited a doctor, and was diagnosed as having a sinus infection, so I don't think that this will be a good test for the product, but I did try it anyway.

The thing to remember is that long term the big drug companies like American Home Products, etc, have big R&D budgets. If they want to find a way around the patents, I would have to guess that they will find one. Also, they are much better positioned to withstand a lengthy, expensive patent litigation than GUMM. I still think the best outcome for stockholders would be for GUMM to get the product out in the market, establish that it works and build a reputation, then sell out to a big drug company that can take the product to the next level.

One question I had concerning the usage of the product was that the instructions call for it be inserted only 1/18 of an inch. Do the Rhino-viruses live and multiply clear down near the end of the nose? I did follow instructions.
