Yes, they are serious. Its the 'rules' their quote provider has and, obviously, they're not inclined to switch quote providers or supplement that quote provider's data with a backup quote provider. At least they're finally acknowledging it. Last month their Web support told me the reason I was getting stale quotes on thinly traded options was that I had an ISP problem.

Update:
I spoke to a rep at SCH, who assured me that the situation with unavailable quotes on low open interest options is temporary and they plan to resolve it with their quote vendor. However, she could not provide a timeframe.

In the meantime, if you call for a quote, tell the rep to give you a quote from Reuters. Their other quote machine gives the same stale quotes as we get online, and many of their reps seem to be unaware of the situation (!!!).
