It's not clear to me that adding a free service to the bundle of software already provided would be terribly expensive. AV is looking for subscribers...it seems like a natural tie-in.

A newbie buying his/her first computer wants internet access. If they find they have a lot of use for it, maybe AV can provide an upgraded service (for a charge of course) More importantly, as a sales incentive, it will be perceived as value added to the new computer purchase.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see something of this type tried.
