Yah..growth may be slowing..if it doesn't we are gonna run out of people on the planet soon..! can not sustain the same growth level at 20 million vs 1 million. The ISP growth potential is over..Now the question is how are you gonna make money while you have 20 million people tuned in

<<Very unlikely. AOL's growth is slowing - therefore the high valuations will be unsustainable. If earnings show a reversal in the trend towards slower growth, all bets are off.>>

Wrong! recent survey by Mary Meeker indicated that AOL has over 50 million users (i.e. I and my spouse), in the USA. Plus, AOL is now growing overseas. With the recent effort to promote DSL (now available in my area!), AOL will get even bigger. And... just wait for your wireless connections. And... let's not forget AOL's reach with Netscape, ICQ, etc... Can you spell G O R I L L A?

Anyway, too tired at this time to write (been celebrating tooooo much on my QCOM good fortune. :-)

gpowell,

AOL's growth is slowing - therefore the high valuations will be unsustainable.

Would you like to enlighten us with some numbers to back your conclusion?
It will at some point, but this thread would like to see whether you made this conclusion based on some numbers(statistics) or it is your own wish.
Obviously the effect of large number will be factor.
You cannot compare ocmpany that has 1 M subscribers and signes 100,000 subuscriber to the one with 20M. But with large numbers even a moderate increase will be great as they can be leveraged to its advantage when it comes to advertishment and e-commerce. Taht is why leaders will keep
leading as long as the management is vigilant, smart and active.

If earnings show a reversal in the trend towards slower growth, all bets are off.

Sure!
If that happens and if it falls out of favour with Wallstreet and if the management sleeps, then we
will reach that state. But to see all these three conditions become true it will take a few quarters and if that happens individuals like us will not be the first one to know IMHO.

Thanks in advance,
-Nat
