Yeltsin's Resignation - Very On-topic

BigBull:

Personally, I think Yeltsin's resignation was the biggest news of the day and could prove to have a significant impact on worldwide oil markets. IMO, there are not many geopolitical events which could have more significance to the patch than a change in the political power structure in Russia. Putin just a few months ago was relatively unknown, but has strong links with the former KGB. Plus he is a major hawk on the Chechen war. This could prove to be big, big news in this sector if it precipitates further instability in Russia. The Russian bear may be getting old and decrepit, but it's bite is still very dangerous, and the oil patch has a strong historical tendency of swinging dramatically when destabilizing geopolitical events occur.

JMVHO.
