Brian, "obey them that have rule over you". Now that is a statement that requires a lot of explaining. Who appointed one, or a few, men to rule over others? There is no evidence that God appointed any mortal to rule over others since Moses. The following Kings of Israel generally found human ways to achieve their goal of Kingship. God was against them having any Kings, at all, but allowed them the free will to select them. Probably, to illustrate what folly it is to have any sort of royalty. Elders are to be respected if they have behaved in such a manner as to merit respect. Respect can not be a gift. It must be earned. Many elders in churches such as Puritan, and Mormon, take their position as elders to wield undue authority over others. The first information I posted about Puritans was from their beginnings in Europe. They were persecuted in England, as were many others also, and fled to Geneva to be under the tutilage of John Calvin. When Calvin died, they took the name of Puritan and coined the idea of the "elect", which indicated that they felt themselves to be vastly superior to others. Perhaps "elect" was a poor choice of words but, too many of them took this distinction to extremes. I hope that you are not insinuating that I have rejected the word of the Lord. I have rejected the word and biases of mortal men who aspire to theologically rule over others. It is quite possible that a few were chosen at birth by God to perform certain tasks while on earth. For instance, Hitler had to be born and become so totally evil to spur the rest of the world into banding together to thwart such aims as world domination. By the same token, Gen. George Patton had to become the brilliant leader that he was to have a prominent part in the defeat of Hitler. It became clear that being a warrior was all he was meant to be, and when the war was won and there was little more use for him, he died. This, however, does not negate the fact that those who believe in, and accept as their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, are saved and become God's people. This is one of the primary points that I so greatly disagree with you on. Records indicated that many of those that were burned, were innocent. Did Joan of Arc deserve to burn at the stake? haqi
