I have asked those very same questions and I still come up with the same answer.

The old companies have a lot of turf to protect.

Cisco also has @$10,000,000,000+ in "cash" or near equivalents (short term, long term, and restricted investments), and no debt. Cisco is generating $400 million in cash a month.

As noted, its two largest competitors in terms of size continue to sport negative net cash on their balance sheets.

The answer can be found in one word............AMAZON.COM

If companies were valued on cashflow, none of the e-commerce and Internet companies would have any value since they are all burning cash like rocket fuel.

Surely you must be more sophisticated an investor than to buy on cashflow? Every analyst knows the cashflows of Cisco vis-a-vis NT and LU and is FACTORED into the current price ----- how many times do I have to explain that basic investment 101 concept? The issue is what will HAPPEN to that cashflow on going-forward basis when CSCO also needs to finance huge contracts and invest in very high number of engineers, software and hardware specialists (if they can even find them) in order to IMPLEMENT and PROJECT MANAGE these very complex network build-out projects.

Comparisons between companies that are basically in a DIFFERENT industry is a mug's game.........wait few years till both NT and CSCO are essentially getting similar split of revenue (if that ever happens) between Enterprise and Carrier market ---- THEN we can compare apples to apples.
