IDC - Read this all..

Wireless researcher:IDC=winner

Latest development in 3rd generation wireless system development indicates that WCDMA instead of cdma2000
system will be the winner. This because GSM and other TDMA-based systems occupy about 85% world market.
WCDMA has been recognized as the international
standard which can 1) take care of the current systems
and 2) build systems with high-speed data capability
on top of them. WCDMA will also take care of current
CDMA systems. NTT DOCOMO has already pushed WCDMA into
the market. Most telecom player like Motolora, Notel,
NEC have almost given up their cdma2000 projects and
moved on WCDMA. Lucent has also put major efforts on
WCDMA. Big wireless service provider like ATT and US
sprint also showed much more interest in WCDMA than
cdma2000.

For the above reason, IDC will have great future (if not grater than QC) due to it's contributions in WCDMA. Plus, if IDC wins the Ericsson case (almost 90% for sure),
then it will get huge TDMA royalties (including past
and future) from Ericsson and maybe other telecom
companies which provide systems to world TDMA market.
This will be much bigger than what QC's current
roaylty gain (CDMA only has 15% of the total market).

QC's hope is that cdma2000 can be accpeted by the market
or at least by the current 15% CDMA market since it's
major royalty revenue is from its IS95A/B standard
- a key part of cdma2000 standard but not the WCDMA
standard. QC cannot enjoy royalty revenue as they do
now in the 3g market if WCDMA is the winner. IDC will eventually gets more since it has patents cover the
whole TDMA and parts of CDMA.

In summary, there are two 3G standards: WCDMA and
cdma2000. The former takes care of both the 85% GSM/TDMA-based systems and the rest 15% CDMA systems.
The later only takes care of the current 15%
CDMA-based systems. Obviously, the maket will choose
WCDMA even though cdma2000 standard is currently
more mature than WCDMA technically.

I wonder when we will hear about splits?! Post splits, a $25 price is a good price. Similar to QCOM, more shares are needed to go around. Also a move to NASDAQ would make things much easier for all concern.
