>Do you know how hard it is to go form -12% to even 3% margins in retail?......

Dude, if you couldnt detect the sarcasm in my message, perhaps you need to take a break from SI, read a few books on modern literature, then get back to us.

States will not allow their tax base to be eaten away......and to assume that sales taxes will not effect buying
habits....would be a mistake. Look for action in the next legislative session.

The retail jewelers of America organization is also lobbying for sales tax for e-commerce. The online jewelry sales are miniscule but the lack of sales tax is a major issue. Sales tax for e-commerce will come to be this year.

And watch the sales tax get slapped on the E-Tailers this year......it will shave 30%+ off of your somewhat wishful sales estimates for next year.

Where does this figure "-12% Margins" come from? I've not seen any major players with negative margins...

The sales tax is definitely coming -- no question. But I'm not sure to what extent it hurts AMZN & others. My sense is they are competing more against EACH OTHER than they are against local retailers.

I do not believe the sales tax will kill internet retailing. And if it doesn't, then I am confident AMZN will be a survivor.
