Are you saying that he parked his car at the Rink, then walked to his office, then back to the Rink, then he drove home to his apartment from the Rink?

No. His car was parked in the Yale lot next to his office on Sachem St (see map). As the rink is only a block away he walked there after finishing up at the office around 8pm, stayed there for a few minutes, and then drove back home at about 8:15.
