Goutama; Re: DDR Cache:
Very interesting rumors there. From the follow on comments this might just be Motorola? who knows right now.
As to the extra costs of Rambus? If they take the same space and are made of similar stuff and have the same yield, then they should converge on common memory costs, plus the Rambus royalty. Right now the price is high. Is that because they have low yields? or a simple initial high price at introduction that will soon drop?
With Mot in dresden and making Rambus a deal looms that will suit both parties. Mot gets space to grow, AMD shaves overhead and gets Rambus for a lower cost.

Interesting stuff. Only problem is that Athlon Pro rumors seemed to have died off in the last few months (until this one anyway)

Goutama, re:<links> I came to the conclusion that an 800 MHz Athlon using DDR SRAM L2 cache will be released shortly, and that it will blow away the 800 MHz Coppermine.

BTW, the skepticism over clock-for-clock performance increase of 35% may be partly explained by the improved AMD 750 chipset running with "super bypass mode -- since the effect of this mode is to reduce memory latency, a very complementary improvement to increased cache bandwidth.
