Today's sell-off may be limited tomorrow by an effect noted by Mama Bear quite some time ago, that being that the market usually has a positive influence on the 5th day, suspected to be related to 401k flows into mutual funds.

But I get a sense that the professionals are ready to stand by and let the market fall quite a bit more before committing additional capital in the form of buying. I expect slugish, downward momentum overall through the end of Feb 00. If we get a few days of down 500 points in a row, the 'buy the dip' mentality will likely return.

That my beaten down portfolio of stocks can hold it's own and even show some positive movement on a down day certainly is encouraging. But I've seen before that during sustained selloffs, even the value stocks become better values. This suggests having some cash ready just in case an unexpected sale takes place.

<<WDC up 30% on a crash day like this means something serious is up.>>

Something must be wrong with my browser....the quote at the bottom of my screen shows WDC up 3/4, 19%. You seeing something different????
