Mark, thanks for your very intelligent and informative response. I have a large position (for me) in WDC, MXTR, HDD, INVX, RDRT, SEG, HTCH, etc.... so it is hard to not color my judgement with wishful thinking. But anyway.

In my opinion, short covering has not even started in WDC. I am counting on that to start in a serious way when the shares go above $10.

I have a couple of points to mention.

1- the Connex products are supposed to ship this month. I have no idea how well they'll do. (I don't even know what they are). But maybe today's rise is related. I have the impression that Quantum also has a similar mass storage product. So there may be a common thread there.

2- There is really very little chance that WDC will go under when fundamentals for the industry are improving. The company was not in default at the start of the quarter, and certainly their position should be improved by now. Also they have a $150 mil equity facitlity, of which they have used about $40 mil.

Well, the next couple of weeks will show whether these are pipe dreams or reality. If the market goes down at 200 points per day, then nothing will survive.

By the way, the reason I think short cover has not started yet is that there were no sudden spikes and retreats in the price behaviour today. Usually short covering is apparent because there will sudden panic spikes. Maybe next week.

Good luck to us all.
