What did INTEL predict for Q4 earnings? I thought they only gave... "flat to up" type of vague guidance hints. What was their per-share guidance...anyone???JK

Elmer - RE: "The fact that Intel can fairly accurately forecast their earnings and analysts think they can do a better job says the analysts missed their call, not Intel."

I'll keep that in mind in the future..

"If AMD does break even or post a profit, which seems more and more likely, don't you think it's the analysts who should be called wrong?"

You asked Mani, but I want to answer.

No. If AMD makes 50M this Q (which I would be disappointed with based on my estimate) and they don't do another earnings preannouncement, I would say it is AMD's fault for not doing a proper projection.

AMD is on record as saying -

"The company currently forecasts that its goal of achieving break-even operating results in the current quarter is attainable, barring unforeseen events or disruptions in the supply chain."

That is why analysts current projections are close to breakeven and not on the positive side as I fully expect.

If AMD's projections are correct, and they only breakeven, I will be VERY inclined to sell the next day, depending on what is said during the CC. Actually, even if they make a good amount, the CC will bbe important to me.

Elmer, there you go with your fudd again.

I make this simple, here is how it works:

Analyst are estimating the earnings to be $X, the company reports $Y,

If X>Y, then company has missed the estimates
If X=Y, then company has met the estimates
If X<Y, then Company has beat the estimates

This is what it means, I do not make the rules!

Now you can spin it any way you want and reply with junks, but it will not change the fact that Intel has "missed" the past two quarters.
