Chuck - RE: "Not a good thing for AMD given CPQ is its key customer. More importantly, CPQ/AMD needs to be aggressive to make sure that this doesn't rub-off on AMD."

I was reading through practically all the Talk Back at the ZDnet articles, and it didn't look pretty good. Some people were getting the freezes right out of the box. LOTS of people seem to be getting it. It is happening to the 5900Z series which is all Athlon, 5700T which is all PIII, and 58XX which is AMD and Intel based. The good thing is that no one is blaming the problem on the processors, just on Compaq.

The problem seems to be one of the programs Compaq loads when the computer starts. One guy says he has a 5900Z and 58XX and has no problems at all because when he got the computer he disabled all the startup stuff.

This could be bad for AMD if Compaq doesn't respond correctly. AMD really needs other OEMs now.
