Cirruslvr. Looks like Athlon is in volume, reliable production for CPQ to place it in so many products.
Now is the time for other top tier makers to start getting online. They are already losing a lot of share to the SD shops with Athlons that are a lot cheaper.

Cirruslvr,

I don't know if you noticed it - the Compaq announcement has also the following -

biz.yahoo.com

For on-the-go performance, Compaq introduces three new Presario notebooks -- the 1200-XL106, 1200-XL110 and 1200-XL111. These new Presario 1200 Series models offer plenty of computing power at an incredible value. For example, the Presario 1200-XL111 includes a 13.3 TFT XGA display, 500 MHz AMD-K6 processor, 6X DVD-ROM with Dolby© Digital Certified Sound so consumers can watch movies anywhere.

<Compaq has put up their new 7000 series computers at their site - athome.compaq.com.

The 7900 series is ALL AMD - K6-2 533, Athlon 550, 600, 700, 750
The 7500 is just one model and it is a PIII 550
The 7400 series is ALL AMD - one K6-2 500 and four K6-2 533 models
The 7300 series is one model and it is a K6-2 500

You can get some of these PCs with a 40 Gig hard drive! >

My PC with PMMX overclocked to 233 feels old. I have even added a second 6.4G drive last year. Not that I need it but it is too tempting to buy a new PC. OTOH, I could wait for Spitfire.

<Since the new Compaq 7000 line is so AMD based, I really hope the dumb freeze problem with Compaq PCs doesn't hurt Compaq, and as a result AMD, to much. >

I doubt if CPQ will let that problem repeat with the new SKUs. But who knows...

<At Pricewatch, BIG Athlon price drops are occurring in anticipation of the Athlon 800 release. Cumine prices are also going down a lot.>

Looking forward to Goutama's report for details ;-)
