Possibly some of it is, but it looks to me more like competitive pressure as well as integration issues with New Dimension and Boole & Babbage. Integrating both at the same time has to have been difficult, regardless of what the company's spin might be.

An idea for your consideration re the Y2K hypothesis.

In other areas of enterprise computing software there is a a "pig in a python" effect around Y2K. Many Fortune-5000-type organizations have so much new enterprise software installed so quickly to prepare for Y2K that they're still getting their heads above water. They're still learning how to manage it. So perhaps customers have slowed buying to digest what they've just swallowed.

Would appreciate any thoughts on this idea. Thanks.
