I think the only pressure that will bring Dell around is economic pressure. Only if they perceive that not using AMD chips is going to hurt them in the pocketbook, will they begin using AMD CPUs. Even if they perceive this, they may not do it until it actually does hurt them 1st (ala Gateway).

Scot,

<A beautiful day for AMD:

1. AMD based GTW boxes are sure to come shortly and STAY.

2. Other box makers that use sole chip supplier will under gun from Wall Street to use alternative CPU supplier to avoid being GTW #2. Using Alternative supplier becomes new game rule for box makers to assure the Street, starting from Today.

An excellent day. Although I never would have believed it six months ago...this type of pressure could even bring Dell around. >

Yougang hit the nail on the head. This event is much bigger than getting a design win at Gateway. Even at Gateway it is much bigger than getting a Athlon design win. What Gateway said today was that they will cease dependence on sole source for processors. I would take such a strong statement to mean AMD is going to split Gateway business BIG time. We will have to wait and see how much business Gateway ends up giving to AMD.

I wonder how many analysts are going to pick it up. If the key guys on AMD (Niles, Kumar, Peck, Osha) pick it up whisper it to their clients the significance of what happened today we will be in 40s before earnings.
