Agreed, it does come down to the final inclination of each individual but I think that idealize is far too strong a word to be used. I personally "respect" the fact that they have intelligence that is above the other animals, chimpanzees to mention one. The limitations they have, no hands or legs for mobility thus limiting them to the sea, no productivity ie, building, manufacturing leaves them with only intellect. That alone should be respected, not revered, not idealized, simply respected for what it is, an intelligence that may or may not rival our own.

If they had a way of communicating with us on a conscious level I believe life would be very interesting. If I were to drop you into an enviroment where the only language spoken was an African dialect consisting of clicks and half words as the pigmies language is, would you be less intelligent to them for failing to understand, or would they be less intelligent for not being able to make themselves clear to you, or just different??
