for my personal use, I have no interest in paying $400 for Microsoft Office,

GF,

For $5, you can buy as many softwares in Asia, including Office 2000. You may even sell the disk after loading the contents onto your hard drive. This is why PC platform is so much better than Apple. Apple people don't share softwares.

Greater Fool,

Re:"If nothing else, the simple addition of AMD volume parts to the marketplace will "radically change the wintel monopoly". AMD already crushed the market for low-cost PC processors with the K6, and will proceed to crush the market for mid-to-high-end processors with the Athlon. AMD will never see Intel's current profit margins, but then again, I don't think Intel will either."

I happen to disagree.

But if you really feel that way Intel is a great short.

If those margins disappear we are looking at a $10 stcok based on book value.

Good luck shorting.

regards,

Kash

Greater and Greater and Greater Fool - Re: "AMD already crushed the market for low-cost PC processors with the K6"

Say What ??!!!

Have you been living under a rock for the past year ?

AMD's K6-shooter has been shot dead by Intel's Celeron - which DOOMINATES the low cost PC segment.
