Well I guess I'm going to take up for Lizzie here....

Bill, I don't see it as denigrating the "elderly" (you call 62 or 65 elderly?) to point out the disparity in our tax system. I'm speaking particularly about SS and Medicare, which, imo, HAS become a "welfare" program. But, it's not our parents generation that worries me the most. Our generation will be able to support our elderly, it's my son and daughter and their generation that I'm worried about....Who is going to support them? Something is seriously wrong with a system that supports millionaires living in million dollar homes when the GenX'ers can't afford to buy a small house. I can identify with Lizzie's concerns, especially in CA where she lives, my son lives in CA too, and buying a home is nearly out of the question for him, even though he earns 6 figures. Our kids deserve a tax break and if it means that our generation will have to take less in benefits then we should do it. Whether by means testing or raising the retirement age, or both.
