bb,

>Many dot.coms are sleazy bucket shops that will never earn money and are only in this to make a fast buck on this mania.<

Happens in any hot market no matter what the sector.

You should have seen the Canadian gold penny stocks in 96. A company would issue a press release saying drilling has started on their property 150 miles north of the massive Bre-X find and the stock would double in a week.

BUT, you can't compare that to quality high tech companies.

IMO

Thanks for your answer bobby, yep you're right about the fly-by-night .com companies with no track record or customers or even a promise of content being a bad investment bet - though must confess to having both made and lost nervous money on these types of Momos you're talking about. After playing with 'em for awhile, was lucky to break a bit ahead of even so "time was up for me with those". Usually steering clear of these now, making no promises is why the "usually" LOL - a hunch on a little Momo.com can be irresistible when it displays that flying pattern up on the intraday chart.
The volatility greed and fear combo is inarguable; but trying to watch the timing of it at the midrange and sometimes catching a rally getting lucky is a more sensible and calm way to make money from it, hope it'll last awhile. Basis for technet sector came from selling off 1/4 of some solid cores and funds awhile ago.... it's grown faster than these original investments and then the cores were paid back so the balance's as it was again, whshew! First things first, so far so good. Hoping you think that's somewhat sensible of me - so if the nets go poof the cores will still be there and growing. Someday Internet will be Old Hat, just another Boom of faded glory ... but telephones still are in process of transforming to telecoms to dotcoms so perhaps it still has a ways to go. Fascinated to follow the progress of Something New and trying to predict where it'll go next to buy some shares a bit ahead of the pack - loved those "Mr. Wizard" and "Dr. Fad" TV shows too so maybe i'm just a geek at heart.
The best internet stocks really do perform a service for customers and at least the sales and revenues are increasing and losses are lessening day by day - some are actually making money now way ahead of the prediction last year at this time. The many exciting innovations which are life enhancements for people who will be using technet to communicate and save time and increase knowledge is a worthwhile investment IMHO, not all just hype or junk.
It's Artwork with a Future.
So i do like playing with The Tulips very much. Here today gone tomorrow - maybe. But here now.
Best 2U,
Joana
