Your brother won't notice the difference of ten dollars for his drive, but OEMs will.They pay the 10 dollars for millions of drives each, so it adds up. And while the extra 10 dollars for drives in the retail channel wouldn't be nothing, it doesn't add up as fast as the OEM drives do. Not nearly as much.

Fujitsu doesn't use the 4.3 platter as their "building block". They have, I am almost certain, announced a 10 gig drive already, though I can't say for certain that it is shipping. But most likely it is. They have been pretty good on hitting the transition points the past couple of years. On the other hand, they did announce a couple of months ago after Larry Sanders left that they were reevaluating their drive business. We can only hope that they "do the right thing", and exit at least the desktop business. If so, that will be very bullish. However, it will be a difficult decision for them to make. We'll see.
