Pravin - RE: "Isn't it ironic that just when AMD has a chance to shine, the market for tech stocks collapses?"

That's AMD's timing. ;)

The way I see it, AMD was up 1/2 (realisticly) on a very bad down tech day. I'd say not bad.

"However, these forces will not be able to keep AMD's stock price down in the face of strong earnings."

I hope so. Who knows how long the Nasdaq is going to do what it is. AMD's earnings come out in about two weeks so lots can happen. Hopefully Intel comes out with good earnings and settles things down.

"We may have to settle for a PE of 20, instead of 30, though."

I'd like some "E" to talk about first!

That will still be a NEGATIVE stock price - if you use the trailing 12 months "earnings".

Hi Pravin:

With possible Y2000 earnings of $7 per share, a multiple of 20 shouldn't be too hard to swallow...but yes it is ironic that the tech market should take such a hit just when AMD is asserting microprocessor supremacy! Conversely, it's kinda nice that AMD has withstood, because of its strengthening (by the day) fundamentals, the 10% general tech stock decline that has occurred already this week. Didn't AMD close at $29 when Nasdaq was at 4100 just last Friday...Imagine where AMD will close when Nasdaq recovers to 4100, which, imho it will, now that the bad news (GTW, LU etc) is out of the way...A stream of good news tech earnings in the next 2 weeks (most importantly, AMD) could easily propel the Nasdaq back over the 4000 level!
