I have been looking for an entry point for awhile on this stock....does anyone know if there are any media matrix numbers of sort for this and other latin stocks like pasa....and any info on yahoo etc latin versions media matrix like numbers?

I'm surprised to read that the Latin American internet market is actually not growing as fast as expected. This biz2.0 article has some good info about starmedia - not a big dog, but not a small one either.

The first major player in the Latin American market, StarMedia must now execute flawlessly or risk being snared and suffocated by its rivals, a fact Espuelas is well aware of. "You can be a 'first mover' and crash against a wall and die because you didn't know what you were doing or because you didn't have enough capital," Espuelas says during a visit to the company's headquarters in New York. "But we've spent four years understanding what Latin Americans want to do on the Net." That may be true, but rumors are swirling from Rio to Silicon Alley that these challenges are too much for the small company to handle and that it's only a matter of time before StarMedia is acquired either by Spain's Terra Networks, T1MSN ? a joint venture between Mexico's Telmex and Microsoft ? or another regional portal.

Just as all of these competitors are squeezing in, the growth rate of the Latin American online market has slowed. A mere 9 percent of the region's households are projected to own a PC by 2003, compared to 65 percent of U.S. households, reports Jupiter Communications. The fact is that despite more than a decade of democratic political reform and adherence to free market economics, Latin America's per capita income levels and disparity in wealth ratios remain as dismal as ever.
