>>A year ago I got the following Celeron cost breakdown :
Pkg -$7, test -$1,Chip -$16, Misc $1.

If the package (chip package plus card module) costs only $7, that's amazing. I wouldn't put it past Intel, as Intel is doing very high volumes, but still it's amazing. May I ask, in private if necessary, where you got your estimate?

>>the K-62 package alone costs $20.

That I very much don't believe. I'm quite curious where that estimate came from.

Saturn,

Re"AMD's package for K6 costs $20"

Don't think so.

$7 would be about right for a CPGA and its assy.

BGA's will lower that to $3-3.50 or so.

And your $16 for Celeron die size are way too high.

regards,

kash

Saturn - RE: "A year ago I got the following Celeron cost breakdown :

I would guess that today the Celeron cost is < $20.

Unfortunately for AMD, the K-62 package alone costs $20."

What's the difference between the Celeron's packaging and the K6-2's?

Thanks.

Re: I would guess that today the Celeron cost is < $20..

Good thing the FABs, design, engineering, marketing, accounting, procurement, etc. are all free, eh Saturn. It would be a crime if any of those costs were to be allocated to the products.
