i read the same quote, and i did not feel terrible for that person. and that's because the key there is that ballard said it was a fear, not an outlook.

"I would sum up my fear about the future..."

the fear being precisely that nothing would be new. that is not a pessimistic statement. in fact, it underlines the individual's quest for a future full of possibilities, rather than one that was boring.

that's what i read.

Dear Penni, I went back to see if I could find a quote about the future for you that was more positive.

Do you know something, I then realized that most of the quotes about the future had a bit of a negative thread running though them. I wonder if most of us really feel like that about the future?
