Teltone Corporation Reports First Quarter 2000 Results

-- Report Reflects Teltone's Increased Investment in its Remote-Voice
Offerings to Meet the Growing Demand for Remote Telecommunications
Solutions --

BOTHELL, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1999-- Teltone Corporation (OTC BB:TTNC), which develops, markets and manufactures specialized telecommunications software, equipment and components, today announced first quarter net profit of $8,000 on sales of $2,671,000 for the first quarter ended September 30, 1999, compared to net profits of $110,000 on sales of $2,632,000 for the first quarter of the previous year.

Increases in first quarter sales of remote-voice products offset expected decreases in the company's semi-conductor and equipment sales. Sales of the company's OfficeLink family of remote voice products more than doubled from the previous quarter, driven mainly by sales through Teltone's partner, Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU - news). The increase in software-based products, such as OfficeLink 2000, resulted in an improvement in overall gross margins to 53%, up from 49% in the first quarter of last year. First quarter operating expenses increased 19% over the same quarter in the prior year as a result of increasing investment in the remote voice product offering -- with emphasis on development, sales and marketing.

''In the first quarter, we continued to devote substantial resources to raising awareness of our software-based remote voice solutions, including gaining access to corporate customers through our
relationship with Lucent Technologies,'' said Richard W. Soshea, president and chief executive officer, Teltone Corporation. ''We are very pleased to see continued acceptance of these offerings as we expand our sales, marketing and development staff in order to capitalize on these opportunities.''

Teltone's OfficeLink family of remote voice offerings enable call center agents and other telecommuters to remotely access an enterprise phone system from anywhere, anytime -- without the need for proprietary hardware at the remote site. OfficeLink 2000 is an IP-based remote voice solution that provides digital phone emulation for Lucent, Siemens and Nortel PBX/ACD's through an easy-to-use Windows PC interface.
