Chaz, those excerpts came from the latest issue of the Gilder Technology Report. gildertech.com You need a paid subscription to access. I assume George Gilder has access to reliable information sources. I hope some of the more technically adept can answer your questions about HDR/1XRTT/3XRTT.

HDR (TDMA)
1XRTT and the 3XRTT (CDMA)
Do I understand this correctly? Anyone?

I don't think so. HDR is a spread-spectrum CDMA technology but I am not familiar enough with it to fully understand what Gilder is referring to but I suspect that since data is bursty in nature and HDR allows up to ~500msec delay to increase capacity, that these delays are time controlled using some early TDMA patents developed by Jacobs and team at Linkabit. That's my guess.

The authors are clerely using hte alphabet soup to try to show something which it is not. The BASE technology is CDMA. This is the one that the data is modulated with for data over the radio link. The fact that the users are them time multi-plexed onto the channel makes their use TDMA, or time division Multiple Access. but then one can think of the fact that each voice channel in a CDMA system is also time multiplexed, but in a very slow fashion (i.e. one caller hangs up, another callers gets that chanel) is really a very slow TDMA channel, then the TDMA guys can go shout at the top of every building that they actually WON!!!!

Meanwhile they just keep paying those litle royalties and making up their ego articles all they want.....
