Even though these are completely different companies, the recent stock action by Qcom is surprisingly similar to AOL a year ago. AOL also split and had a huge run through Christmas, then in January everyone was buzzing about another split. That split did not come, and AOL took a 50% haircut when everyone sold the great earnings. I'm not saying the same will happen to Qcom, since it already may have corrected, but I would hate to see a rumour start on a split that will artificially drive the price up and then have it sell off. Most of us realize that splits are immaterial to anything concrete, but it certainly affects investor psychology. I would rather just focus on earnings, and hope they beat the whisper, if not we could have another selloff.
