UF,
I feel like I am missing something...from the main thread discussion...am I too close to the bone.

help me understand this tornado thing. I have read all 3 books(reading them again now)...and I am trying to justify my large CREE position in my mind.

If gorillas must have a market cap of $10 Billion, do you believe the tornado is predicated on a specific amount as well? Even if only in the threads mind? Is it a combination of market cap and growth?
MB told me a while back that revenue growth not earnings growth is the key. LB told me today that CREE's patents will have to be tested in court first.

The main thread is heavily focused on QCOM and I understand why.
And when I bought QCOM at 190 you were quick to ask me why...It was a helluva good question imo.

Here are some current comparison figures that I took from research.

I would appreciate any thoughts regarding these.
tia,

QCOM CREE
PE 541 127
Price/sales 25 29
Profit Margin 5.1% 23%
Operating Margin 10.3% 53%
Return on Assets 6.5% 14%
Return on equity 13.7% 16%

Revenue growth 18% 70%
Earnings growth 85% 80%

Frank,

<< certainly room for scrutiny of Pre-Tornado candidates ... vacant sister thread titled G&K Hunting Grounds specifically created to identify potential Chasm Crossers >>

Have you read "Inside the Tornado" or are you just sleeping with it under your pillow? <g>

The FM & RFM provide only a condensed version of the technology adoption cycle which is more thoroughly explained in "Tornado".

Perhaps the G&K Hunting Grounds thread KY thoughtfully started is throwing us off because its title is preceded by "Bowling Alleys and Tornadoes" rather than "Chasms & Bowling Alleys" or "Crossing the Chasm".

The question becomes when do we want to be discussing a company like for example CREE (or taking a position in CREE?), or for example like GMST (or taking a position in GMST?) I don't think we necessarily want to actually wait till after the Tornado has started and we have verified it (and it is very difficult to determine when it starts).

It seems to me that we might want to start serious discussion here after we can confirm some company fundamentals, confirm the fact that the chasm has been crossed, and that the first few pins have dropped, and more will follow, then probably we should be discussing the company here rather than in our nurturing place, the Hunting Ground.

I'm not sure yet which thread Cree should fall on because my antenna has just been raised due to excellent discussions here.

Clearly GMST is not yet in the Tornado, but we have it in our Index (and portfolios), and we think we can see can see the Tornado coming ...

Just thinking out loud ...
