I really haven't caught on to the whole ebay "thing." Like why start bidding at 50 bucks on an item with a reserve over 2 grand (and maybe/probably a lot over -- we don't know yet where the reserve lies)? I've been to some live auctions, and those make a lot more sense to me, especially in being able to size up the competition. Also, I've done a postmortem of a few ebay auctions, and it seems like as often as not the successful bidder comes out of nowhere at the last minute, which is when most of the bidding seems to happen. That's very different from the live auctions I've attended, in which the ultimate winner has usually bid multiple times during the price discovery. I think the "proxy bid" scheme ebay allows really works against its users, too.

At any rate, despite being tempted I've chosen not to play the game so far -- never even registered. I'd rather horse trade one-on-one. They do get some interesting stuff, though.

JMHO.
