"'To each according to his need, from each according to his ability"

Need is the operative word. Slavery and oppression have always been justified by "need."

In the 18th century, slavery was justified by society's need for the labor. The slaves' objection was disregarded because their labor was needed. Woe to the slave that objected.

In 21st century Cuba it is the duty of any citizen to provide what needs the people claim.
Any one who objects is an "enemy of the people" and treated very harshly.

In both situations, a mans life, liberty and happiness are only to provide for someone else's needs.

It is to this situation that Elains' father demands Elian be returned. Elians' father is bad to demand his sons' return to bondage.
