PALO ALTO, Calif., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW - news), today announced that Television New Zealand (TVNZ) has selected the Sun StorEdge(TM) Media Central digital video management and distribution platform to power its broadcast of the America's Cup Regatta events throughout the America's Cup Village in Auckland, New Zealand.

''We had developed our own 'TV Station in a PC' system, but we decided to implement the more robust Sun StorEdge Media Central because we felt it would deliver the quality, versatility, and reliability required to meet the demanding 24-hour requirements of the America's Cup Village Channel,'' said Reg Russ, general manager, New Media for TVNZ. ''With the event underway, the system is delivering stunning quality pictures to the popular Village venue. It provides a great deal of flexibility and enables us to deliver world-class digital broadcast services with limited staff under very demanding circumstances.''

The TVNZ Village Channel is a dedicated wireless television channel that carries live and delayed coverage of America's Cup events to video receivers throughout the village. The Sun configuration powering the TVNZ channel includes Sun StorEdge Media Central software with a Sun Enterprise(TM) 450 server, four Sun StorEdge A1000 storage arrays, and Tektronix MPEG2 4:2:2 encoders and decoders. The highly flexible media server integrates easily with TVNZ's existing analogue broadcasting equipment and allows TVNZ to operate the Village TV station remotely.

''The America's Cup broadcast is an ideal showcase for the extensive media management and distribution capabilities of the Sun StorEdge Media Central platform,'' said Denise Shiffman, director of content services for Sun Network Storage. ''It demonstrates how Sun StorEdge Media Central, the world's first truly open, flexible digital media services platform, provides the ideal environment for enabling end-to-end media solutions.''

Blow it out your tubes. I'm not the reason that the stock "burped" while others moved up quite well. If the street can't trust you, your stock is going to have problems. I did nothing to you!!! Why bad mouth me???
