wbm, RE: DELL was a 41.75 stock on Dec 20th and five days later it was a 47.25-49 stock (Yeah again -I made some good money on the rise)- and MSD sells into this rise and then it tanks. Now it has just returned to the pre-hype level ot thereabouts-I mean there has got to be a bit less obvious manner to cause a little less suspicion/ conection.(GS)

You have hit upon a point where there certainly could be some questions. To say the least that whole move was 'interesting.'

I have dealt with Goldman long enough and on a high enough level to think that they a) wouldn't be so foolish as to devote the capital needed to move DELL that far and b) even if they did move the stock to facilitate a trade for MSD, think about the $$ that DELL truly generates for them. It isn't much compared to a lot of other firms. Commission $$ on the 144 trades are so small to be meaningless, and the acquisitions added in wouldn't add up to enough $$ to compensate Goldman for the bucks it would cost them to move DELL that far.

The only caveat here is that if there an IBM deal, then there certainly might be some banking $$ pay off for Goldman in the long run. For now, I am inclined to give Goldman the benefit of the doubt.
