3Com Owns 100% of the Worldwide Desktop Packet Telephony Market
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 10, 2000-- Phoenix, Arizona-based Synergy Research Group's Worldwide Voice over IP (VoIP) report for the first three quarters of 1999 cites 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS) as the #1 equipment vendor with 100% marketshare in Desktop Packet Telephony in its VoIP Access & Infrastructure category. Synergy's report also cites 3Com shipping 23,304 phones in its Desktop Packet Telephony Line category for the first three quarters of 1999, representing the total number of LAN phones shipped during that period.

"Synergy's recent report flags 3Com's victory in the LAN telephony market," said Ed Wadbrook, director of marketing, Voice Solutions Group, Network Systems Business Unit, 3Com. "With the NBX(R)100 communications system, 3Com has created this market segment and will leverage this expertise to garner expanded marketshare in the enterprise VoIP categories as the company executes on its e-Networking voice strategy announced today."

"The VoIP market - specifically the LAN IP PBX space - is one of the largest business opportunities today," said Jeremy Duke, president, Synergy Research Group. "3Com is the only LAN telephony vendor shipping for revenue today, which further strengthens its leadership in the traditional enterprise as well as in the emerging market of enterprise packet telephony."
