IMO always roll to a later month, never roll up in the same month, way too risky.
And the number one rule of options investing is:
(drum roll)
take profits take profits take profits
Dont wait forever: sometimes the profit you see is the best you are going to get and it goes down and never achieves that price again!

I think that I would roll out to at least the Feb's. Your strategy might work, but is too short term for my blood. You would be taking profitable options and adding a lot more risk on a very short term basis. JMHO!
