CJ,

Re: "Based on the location of the stab wounds and the number of them in this instance (as differing from the situation you described) some of us are of the opinion that SJ knew her attacker."

Comment: I am of the opinion that it is probable that she resisted strongly, enraged her assailant(s), who then aggressively and repeatedly stabbed a strong-willed, physically fit woman. It is probable that if this was a bungled robbery that the assailants picked a pretty woman under the false belief that she was an easy victim and then when this went awry, stabbed her in a struggle, tossed her out of the car, and gave up on the murder.

CJ,

Re: "It is helpful to learn from you that, after being stabbed twice in the heart, the woman was still able to run about 100 yards."

Something to keep in mind about running with knife wounds: Your heartbeat and bloodflow is vastly accelerated and thus quickens your death. Given SJ's stab wounds, I doubt very much she did anything more than stagger from the car to the location where she was found.

Re: "On a lighter note, while I have not been to Oakland in 7 years, several people I know, and know of, have moved to the East Bay. I've been hearing that many positive steps are being taken in the greater Oakland {CA, for anyone unfamiliar) area regarding regentrification of commercial areas and residential neighborhoods."

Wherever in the world I travel, and I travel a lot, I always love getting home. Our particular neighborhood, Rockridge, is often compared to Paris (without the architecture) given it numerous cafes, people walking about, kids, dogs, flower stands, small shops, etc. Oakland is pretty under appreciated in the press. Go ahead, let them make fun of our mayor, Jerry Brown. People here elected him by a wide margin.

By the way, the police eventually caught the murderer of Lisa Smith (the young woman). He had taken her cell phone and stupidly used it. It took about a month to find him, but they did. I also believe that SJ's killer will be found. Whether the NHPD is culpable I can't say, but I agree that if their informants in the rough crowd are doing their best, they will hear someone talking.

Thanks again for the discussion.

Harry
