twister- Sun is *promoting Linux ( vociferously ). You can obtain Linux *from sun.com. They're working with the Linux community and Linux companies in a BIG way. They've purposefully made Solaris 8 Linux friendly; among other ways, so that Linux and Solaris co-exist together on the same hard drive.

Why?

Most every 'Linux geek' I know would like to have an Ultra.

Are you *that clueless?

Are you impressed that Unisys actually sold something to a non-descript insurance firm or that these were Intel based systems? large Intel based systems have been sold for years by Unisys, NCR, Sequent, Data General - pretty bad business given the track records of these companies except for Unisys and NCR which are moving into being services companies (like DEC...). Now as a note these Intel systems run SVR4 Unix, Dynix and MPRAS so lets not confuse these with NT servers - Unisys has a huge installed base of minicomputers that they have been migrating to Intel/Unix systems - i suspect they have good volume since Unisys has a very good track record with their customers. However there hasnt been a port of software onto Unisys unix in say about 5 years! So while Penn Insurance can run their old cobol application on these new servers thats about it. Unisys had been hoping that they could sell NT to their minicomputer companies and not worry about application ports but NT has only delivered a new name in 4 years and wont meet customers expectations of scalability and reliability for many years if ever - a real bind.

Twister, you crack me up -is there anything in this Unisys Announcement that they "sent you" that compares to Sun's Suntone or Vodafone announcment today? Is Unisys going to form the backbone of the Vodafone(Mannesman?) mobile and data platform like Sun is? Is Unisys drawing ISV's onto their SVR4Unix platform for Application Service Providers like Sun is with Suntone? Is there any b2b or b2c or any ecommerce application that runs on Unisys' vaunted servers??

I also like this from the Vodafone announcement:
"Sun Microsystems - hardware and service delivery platform
IBM - systems integrator"

OK Twister - i dont want to make you look to foolish for posting your inside information from Unisys. Maybe you should stick to sarcasm and withdraw from posting press releases like you do from forecasting stock prices.

Customer Scorecard from the past few weeks:
Sun - Lucent, Nortel, Vodafone
Unisys - Penn National Insurance

oh, before we concede the insurance industry to the almighty Unisys - Allstate is a Sun Shoppe with many Sun's including Starfires.
