How about this? On January 27, WCOM announces 4Q earnings. Consensus per Yahoo Finance is $.41 EPS. Fourth quarter 1998 EPS was $.153. (I make this to mean that EPS may rise 168%).

Similarly FY 1998 EPS was -$1.521 (E*Trade) or -$1.35 (Standard & Poors) or $.54 (Yahoo Finance). With the consensus 4th quarter EPS, FY 1999 would be $1.33. (UP BIG <g>)

FY 2000 consensus is for EPS to rise 44%.

S+P says WCOM has about half the world's current internet structure. S&P estimates fair value, as of January 10th, at 54 7/8.

Best wishes,
Tom

Dear Watson Youth: The strange thing is WCOM has a very high recommended ranking, at 12/31 a rating of 1.22 on scale of 1(best) to 5(worst). Todays slide seems to be related to overseas weakness in telecoms and banks. My basis is about 50 and I thought I had it near the bottom. So short term, who knows? I originally bought into WCOM to add a quality Telecom stock to me core portfolio so while its recent slide is irritating it is of no major concern to me. I had no intention of selling here, or at 70. Far as I know the basics havent changed for WCOM. Neither I nor my broker is aware of anything negative out there either. JDN

Its amazing how people are bailing out today. Its actually amusing to the point where I had to pick up some shares. WCOM is the cheapest growth play on the market. Sure, it has been acting like crap lately, up and down for the past 12 months. However, this stock always rallies after a sell-off. This will blow-over with time. Reminds me of BMY last week when everyone said drug stocks are garbage and BMY was up almost 9 in a day. Doubled down during the sell-off and sold on the rally. Very happy. WCOM has been a poor long term performer over the last year but is a wonderful trading equity.
