That would be highly premature to even compare LU to DEC.

They have some deep-rooted problems but DEC NEVER had Bell Labs and DEC never had the blue chip client base LU has (or had?)

However, in the age of Internet, I have to say anything is possible (not probable) -- even the demise of once great franchise like LU if the BOD is incapable of recognizing LU's predicament.

I think LU is paranoid about being the next DEC that's why it's being buying a lot of new age companies. The only thing is how to keep the talent, maybe by lowering the stock option price. LU is also very strong in microelectronics and wireless, something CSCO or NT doesn't have. LU is also ahead of CSCO in optical fiber. Eventually the 3 companies will share the same valuation. Let's see if LU will get a new CEO who will run it like a start-up. Isn't that what HP just did?
