The actual rate of IBM's LTO is up to 15 MB/second (uncompressed) - NOT 20GB. Quantum's DLT 8000 does 6MB/second (uncompressed) so LTO is still significantly faster. Keep in mind however that IBM's new format would require new tapes. The Quantum DLT 8000 uses the same widely available DLTtape IV media and will also read DLTtape III and IIIXT media. I know that our data center wouldn't be thrilled at replacing hundreds of tapes.
