Yes it is greedy if you deliberately enact or support programs which essentially screw another group who doesn't deserve it, be it financially or otherwise. I honestly don't understand how anybody can question this. I would like to pay less than everybody else for a lot of things, but that doesn't mean my conscience will allow me to do so. For example, in my industry we are importing a lot of workers from 3rd world countries - this is in essence holding down salaries for US workers - if I had the elderly mindset I would run out and start complaining to government and get some sort of subsidy legislation passed because, well, "I deserve it" - after all, just like SS, I was going along just fine and something changed to allow these workers to come in and now my situation is different - I make less - I deserve more!! To quote a friend "I'm-mad-as-hell-and-not-going-to-take-it-anymore!!". The difference is, I don't dump my problems on other segments of society in the form of subsidies for myself. I expect this level of integrity from any adult. From the elderly, I don't get it.

Is it greedy to want what
you're legally entitled to?

Yes.

Entitlement and greed have nothing in common.

Entitlement is a matter of societal law.

Greed is a matter of individual character and emotion.
