Here's the deal: "4% per week for 40 weeks per year and that the investment would be secured by an equivalent amount in cash or bank guarantees."

That, my friends, is a classic HYIP scam. An incredibly weekly interest rate accompanied by some non-existent "Bank guarantees."

The promised ROI of 4% per week works out to a compound annual growth rate of 668%. That's at the high end for HYIP scams. But then the $3.3 M that the victim invested was also unusually large.

In this case, LFT had a middleman between it and the victim. LFT was to pay the middleman at essentially the smae terms that the middleman was to pay the victim. This distinguishes the Gillaspie case from the Marasco case, where the victim apparently contracted directly with LFT, after the middlemen in that case introduced them.

N,

Sansea Limited LLC can be found in the Nevada Corps database. Robert Ponikvar (listed principal of Sansea) is extremely interesting. While the Nevada database lists two entries for Sansea, the older (now defunct) listing shows that Mr. Ponikvar is a current or former Scottsdale, AZ resident. So a quick check of the Maricopa County Recorder's Office revealed something extremely interesting, though I have no idea what it means.

It shows a lien of $30K imposed on Mr. Ponikvar in 1997 by the Department of Justice. The document contains the following wording: "Department of Justice Notice of lien for fine and/or restitution imposed pursuant to the Anti-terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996". The document also shows the relevant court case etc..

recorder.maricopa.gov (Search on "Ponikvar" without the quotes; only two entries. The 1997 entry is the interesting document.)

Be sure to look at both pages of the document.

BTW, the Superior Court site was not available, so perhaps someone can look there in the morning.
