Yeah, tell that to Id5030. I said they should do that 6 months ago. I said Att should spin-off ATHM a year ago. They will inevitably do this or buy ATHM and make it a division. Which they do depends upon many factors unknowable at this time. The latter will not be done at a premium, but the former will be done at a discount.

gpowell,

Consider this. AOL will own TWX. ATHM has contracts with most of the rest of the cable industry in the US and some of Europe and Asia. They will both roll as fast as the plant is upgraded. The phone companies will push DSL as a competing offering in the residential market.

Phone companies vs. Cable companies.

This might push AOL and ATHM towards each other as they attempt to gain share. I'd say that it might also push AOL and ATHM's MSO's into deals but at this point AOL has nothing to offer. They are out of cash. They are tied to the old lady and will struggle to keep the spoiled shareholders believing in their fool marriage. Meanwhile, ATHM has a network built specifically for BB. This is no trivial thing. As ahhaha said recently to Frank, Let's see AOL try and cram their masses onto TWX rickety (I'm paraphrasing). Beep beep has no backbone. All they have build is access to the wild west Internet through HFC. I smell scaling problems for beep beep. ATHM infrastructure has been built with a massive BB ramp in mind. While they have their own scaling issues they at least have done a lot of heavy lifting and beep beep has done nothing.

Physics has a funny way of exposing fluffery no matter how much spin is applied. What do any of you think of the above rambling?
