Eicon Selects ADSL Chipset From Alcatel - Advanced ADSL Chipset to be Used in Multiple Products From Eicon JANUARY 18, 2000 MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA--Eicon Technology Corporation, today announced that they have chosen the new DynaMiTe(TM) MTK-20150 ADSL chipset from Alcatel for use in the development of Eicon's DIVA ADSL products. Eicon selected Alcatel's advanced fifth generation chipset for its support of multiple standards, lower power consumption and higher performance and throughput levels. By incorporating Alcatel's MTK-20150 in its ADSL products allows Eicon to offer more feature-rich and powerful ADSL solutions. The DynaMiTe MTK-20150 supports multiple ADSL standards including ANSI T1.413 Issue 2, ITU G.992.1 (G.dmt), G.992.2 (G.Lite), and ETSI TM-06006 (ADSL over ISDN). This flexibility will enable Eicon to develop solutions that address the differing connectivity options and market requirements around the world. "Alcatel's ADSL chipset is the most widely deployed in the world and offers our customers the guarantees they need on interoperability," said Maks Wulkan, Executive Vice President, Eicon Technology. Recent market figures suggest that nearly 60 million homes in the US can be served with ADSL, as of the end of 1999. In Europe, where much of the telecommunications infrastructure uses ISDN for last mile connectivity, ADSL over ISDN will be deployed. Products using the DynaMiTe MTK-20150 use less power than previous generation ADSL modems, saving the end-user money. In addition, the increased performance and throughput of this modem design will enable people living further away from the central switch to use Eicon's ADSL modems.
